INGRID COHEN
Having no goal for image or theme, color is my only decision. Poured onto the canvas the Paint shows me where it is going. Each piece becomes an experiment. Large simple images emerge immediately and then the process of eliminating and adding begins Layer upon layer is poured on and washed away. Scrubbed with a variety of liquids, scratched and scraped with a variety of tools. Then more paint is added, and again the layers are reduced and deducted, always leaving at least a trace behind..... and these become the random marks of time. The painting becomes a living organic process, and as in the natural world, it ages, and becomes more complex and interesting in its transformation.
