BOB DORMAN
When Robert Dorman was
given coloring books as a young child, instead of coloring them, he would take
blank pieces of paper to draw the pictures himself and then color in his own
drawings. It was apparent that he had a gift and fortunately that gift
was nurtured from an early age. Dorman practiced and developed his
skills, always determined to learn new techniques and improve his talents. He
admired and was influenced by Norman Rockwell, Andrew Wyeth and Clark
Hulings. His love of art has always played a major part in his
life.
Dorman has spent his
entire career creating artwork in many different forms with many different
mediums. After studying art at Coe College, he served as a draftsman in
the U.S. Navy. During the sixties and seventies, he won many awards for his
illustrations and designs for ad agencies, magazines, corporations, and
regional businesses for his work at a Midwest art studio.
For over 20 years,
Dorman’s paintings have appeared on countless greeting cards and calendars. His
ability and diversity culminated in heading up the art departments as a Vice
President for two major greeting card companies.
Throughout his career,
Dorman has taken the opportunity to balance his commercial endeavors with his
love of creating fine art. Although he has done virtually every medium,
he is now best known as a contemporary realist oil painter recognized for his
use of rich color and intricate detail. Many of his projects have
benefited charitable organizations, nature centers, and college athletic
departments.
His paintings have been
featured in Marlin Magazine, Southwest Art, Better Homes and Gardens, and on
the cover of the Daytona 500 Program.
Dorman resides in Port
Orange, Florida with his wife, Mary, where he continues to create paintings for
an ever increasing list of clients and collectors.
