PAULA BRODY
I have enjoyed a lifetime of creativity with multi-media painting as my latest
passion. Vibrant in color, my works combine watercolor with inks, acrylics, pastels,
fibers, fabrics and found objects for collage.
My love of flowers is reflected in many of my paintings and collages. I am an
avid gardener and arranging flowers has always been a joy for me, whether placing
flowers into a canvas or into a special vase. I spend my summers on Cape Cod where
I propagate flowers. In my paintings, flowers multiply as well, often as abstract
arrangements of color and shape.
My first solo exhibition, entitled “The Garden of Eden” included thirty of my
abstract floral works. I am currently creating a series of collage and fabric
works, entitled “Reflections in Water” expressing the spiritual inspiration I
derive from the beaches, bays, and ponds in Naples and Cape Cod. I can often be
found walking on the beach, collecting broken shells or sea stones, reflecting
on nature’s beauty.
My engagement with nature is also expressed through beading necklaces combining
natural gemstones with glass beads. Other creative endeavors include interior
decorating and kitchen design. I have collaboratively designed, developed and
decorated homes in Naples, Boston and Cape Cod. All of these artistic expressions
have been balanced over the years with a professional career in which innovation
has been the essential ingredient for the programs I have developed and marketed
in my professional work in Boston. I have a Masters in Social Work and a Doctorate
in Education and over 30 years of clinical experience working in a wide variety
of professional settings.
I believe everyone has artistic talents often hidden within them waiting for
expression. I am grateful to master teacher Genie Kell, my fellow artists in Naples
and certainly my husband, Merrill, for encouraging me to express my energy and
my spontaneous spirit through my art.
