Holly lives with her husband Klaus in
Naples
,
Florida
and in
Montana
during the summer. Together they have lived onboard cruise ships, in the
Caribbean
,
Europe
and the
US
.They relocated about 6 years ago from
Grand Cayman
in the
British West Indies
. There the colors and textures were a great influence on her work. The clear
warm air, clean cool waters and typical textures of the
Caribbean
still reflect with great intensity in her color palette and on the painting surfaces.
Color is of primary importance to her without it she says there is no painting.
“My color brings life and energy to my work, whatever the subject matter representational
or abstract color leads the way”. Her great sense of color and value gives her
the freedom to walk from realistic art to abstract and back, allowing her imagination
to dictate the outcome. She tries to keep the colors clean and crisp and always
color in her color.
Composition and design are also important to her it is what holds the interest
of the viewer. It needs to be strong enough and enticing enough to captivate and
move them around her world (the painting). She most often works in a series to
explore an idea until she is resolved with it. This always leads the way for new
exploration.
Her intense fascination with all things in history from mythology, cave paintings,
cuneiforms, to resent icons in the 21st Century and historical places all influence her subject matter be it abstract
or realistic.
Spending the last several summers in
Montana
has added another unexpected element to her work back to a more structured subject
with vibrant color. The work from this summer is less structured than last and
some abstract images are beginning to immerge.
She returns to
Florida
in the early fall and looks forward to incorporating new and exciting elements
to her work.
“I want people to enjoy my work” she says. “Perhaps to question it, to accept
it and to connect with it. Hopefully once looked at find it imprinted on the mind
to visit in the imagination from time to time, better yet acquire a piece and
visit it daily”!
